Instructions
STEP 1
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
STEP 2
Beat flour, brown sugar, shortening, molasses, egg, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves in a large bowl.
STEP 3
Stir in remaining flour until combined.
STEP 4
Roll dough into 1-inch balls; roll in white sugar.
STEP 5
Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
STEP 6
Bake until set and crackled, about 8 to 10 minutes.
