Rich, Flaky Pie Dough
Ingredients
1/2 teaspoon
table salt
1 1/2 cups
unbleached all-purpose flour
4 tablespoons
vegetable shortening
8 tablespoons
unsalted butter
Instructions
STEP 1
Combine flour and salt in food processor bowl.
STEP 2
Scatter butter pieces over flour mix; cut with pulses.
STEP 3
Add shortening; cut until mixture resembles cornmeal.
STEP 4
Transfer to a bowl. Add cold water; mix until dough forms.
STEP 5
Shape dough into a disk; refrigerate for 30 minutes.
STEP 6
Roll dough into a rectangle, trim, and place over filling.
STEP 7
Cut vent holes in the dough before baking.
