Mama's Banana Pudding

vanilla wafers

Instructions
STEP 1
Stir together sugar, flour, and salt.
STEP 2
Whisk in milk, egg yolks, and eggs.
STEP 3
Melt butter, pour mixture, and whisk on medium-low heat until thickened.
STEP 4
Stir in vanilla and cool custard.
STEP 5
Peel and slice bananas. Line casserole dishes with wafers.
STEP 6
Layer bananas and pour custard over it.
STEP 7
Beat egg whites, cream of tartar, and remaining sugar until stiff peaks form.
STEP 8
Spoon meringue over custard; cover completely.
STEP 9
Broil until browned, about 1-2 minutes.
STEP 10
Cool slightly before serving.
