Caramel Apple Sheet Cake
Ingredients
2 cups
all purpose flour
1 cup
granulated sugar
1 cup
packed light brown sugar
1/2 tsp
baking soda
1/4 tsp
salt
1 tsp
ground cinnamon
2 sticks
unsalted butter
1 cup
water
1/2 cup
buttermilk
2 large
eggs
1 tsp
vanilla
2 cups
chopped apples
6 tbsp
butter
1 cup
packed brown sugar
1 tsp
vanilla
2 cups
confectioner's sugar
Instructions
STEP 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray and flour a 9x13 pan.
STEP 2
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.
STEP 3
In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter and water. Bring to a boil.
STEP 4
Remove from heat and mix in the flour mixture.
STEP 5
Stir in buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla until just blended. Do not overmix.
STEP 6
Fold in the chopped apples and spread batter evenly in the pan.
STEP 7
Bake for about 30 minutes, until the top springs back when lightly touched and a toothpick comes out clean.
STEP 8
Allow the cake to cool on a wire rack.
STEP 9
For frosting, in another saucepan, combine half-and-half, butter, and brown sugar. Bring to a boil while stirring constantly.
STEP 10
Remove from heat, mix in vanilla and sifted confectioner's sugar until smooth.
STEP 11
Once the cake has cooled for 20 minutes, spread the frosting over the cake.
